I’m never quite sure how to pronounce ‘Calcaneal’. Is it ‘cal-ca-ne-al’? ‘Cal-cane-e-al’? Then we have the whole calcaneus v calcaneum thing. It’s a minefield!

However, you say it Calcaneal heel stress fractures are easy to miss and can be hard to treat. The location and symptoms can vary, masquerading as plantar heel pain or even insertional Achilles tendinopathy but they require a different management approach from these more common injuries.

I must admit I don’t see these stress fractures regularly but after two suspected cases back to back in clinic, I thought it was a good idea to learn more about them and pass that knowledge on to you.

So I got my geek on, read some research and with a little help from the brilliant @Suzy_Speirs (who you really should follow on Twitter) I’ve created a video (below) all about identifying and treating calcaneal stress fractures. In it I discuss key signs, symptoms and tests, as well as treatment options plus I, pronounce ‘Calcaneal’ in about 4 different ways so keep a lookout for that! 😉
